Using Rekko Email List

Rekko Email List gives you the option to create dynamic emailing segments using our powerful profiling engine. With the different profiles you can segment your visitors into, we’re able to pull just the right visitors into a list that you can export or use in Rekko emailing campaigns. We also give you the option to import email addresses and include your own custom profiles.

Rekko Mailing List is simple to use, but let us try and answer some questions up front!

How do I format my file to import a list into Rekko?

Files should be in CSV format and should include the following headers:

  • email
  • fname: The first name of your visitor.
  • lname: The last name of your visitor.
  • customProfile1: This custom profile can be renamed however you’d like. More descriptive names best; e.g. “favoriteColor” or “special_offers”.
  • customProfile2: This custom profile can be renamed however you’d like. Here we just show that you can have more than one custom profile.
  • The order of your columns do not matter when importing into Rekko. Just be sure that you have your headers set up properly.

    Does adding a new subscriber create a Visitor Record for them in Rekko?

    Yes. When you add a new subscriber, either by the CSV import or adding them manually, the visitor will have a new record created if they’re not already in Rekko’s database.

    What if I import an email address for a visitor who’s already in the Rekko database?

    When you add an existing subscriber (that is, you add an email address that already exists in Rekko), the visitor record for that subscriber will update with the latest information you submit. So let’s say John Doe is already in Rekko with the email address [email protected] If you include that same email address in your latest import that also includes a custom profile field for favoriteColor, John Doe’s visitor record in Rekko will update to include his favorite color. Any other record we have for John Doe (his visit history, shopping carts, and profiles) will remain the same.

    How do I display a visitor’s name in an email? Like: “Hi, John Doe!”

    Rekko uses merge tags to display a visitor’s information, like name and email, or product information inside campaign creatives. Use merge tags in your HTML for onsite or email campaigns to personalize messages. It’s all very simple – we even give you drop downs in each campaign creative to make it easier! To give you a little more insight, though, you can see below on how things work:

  • {{VISITOR:EMAIL}}: This will display a visitor’s email address inside your onsite or email creative.
  • {{VISITOR:FNAME}}: This will display a visitor’s first name. For example: “Hello, {{VISITOR:FNAME}}!” will return “Hello, John!”
  • {{VISITOR:LNAME}}: This will display a visitor’s last name. For example: “Hello, Mr. {{VISITOR:LNAME}}!” will return “Hello, Mr. Doe!”
  • {{VISITOR:CUSTOMPROFILE}}: This will display the visitor’s custom profile value.
  • Can I target visitors based on the custom variables I import with the feed?

    Yes. In Rekko’s profiling engine, you can use the Custom Profile element to target visitors based on the custom profile you create. The first field is for the name of your custom profile. The second field is for the value that may match the custom profile.

    Example: You have a custom profile for visitors who purchase Nike Bionics. You can set it up as purchased_Nike_Bionics with the associated value as “true”; i.e. people who’ve purchased this product. See below for a screenshot of how this will appear within Rekko’s profiling engine.
